window problems

my driver side window only works about half of the time. it wont go completely down, it stops about 1/4'' from the door. then when i try to put it up the window stops about half way. at this point it wont go up or down... this becomes extremely fustrating. the strange thing is if i walk away and i come back about 5 min later it goes up. the window motor isnt making any unusual noises. what do you guys think? has anyone had problems similar in their 98-02 camaros.

It's the motor - sooner or later it will die all the way. Happened in my 98 Camaro

Having gone through this same issue with 3 different F-bodies I've owned, I can pretty much garuntee its your window motor. The reason it works after you let it sit, is because it cools off, but then usually heats back up super fast.

The solution/fix can range from being fairly inexpensive and simple, to being expensive and a PITA.

You can get new window motors from GM, but they'll cost you an arm and a leg. Autozone has ones you can pick up for around $55 a motor. Personally I got my new window motors off of ebay for about $25 (shipping included). Here's one from a similar vender I got mine from; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-...QQcmdZViewItem

The aftermarket ones still have a lifetime warranty, and are still made in the USA. I have installed 4 of these in my F-bodies, and they work great.

As for the install, the dealer quoted me $195 PER WINDOW to replace mine. I found other car shops that would do it for slightly less. After not wanting to fork out that kind of money, I decided to do the install myself.

The install is kind of a pain, but gets much easier the more you do it. By my 4th install, I feel like a pro. Here's the website I used; http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html

It's pretty self explanatory. If you live in NJ, and want to meet up with me, I will perform the install for you. I personally charge $55 for one, or both for $100. You can do one install if you are good, in a few hours. Both will take you an afternoon.

Good luck man. I hope this helps
