will this amp drive this sub?

ok guys if youve ever read a post of mine you know i know absolutely nothing about car audio, so heres another one of my brain teasers! im about to get this MTX thunder 8000 10'' 4ohm 1000watt sub (dont know the rms watts, but the 800 watt one just like it is 75-400rms) and i need to know if this profile 600msx mono amp i have will drive it. i plan on putting that sub in a subthump 10'' enclosure, thats why im only getting one.

in short my question is will that 600watt mono amp supply enuf power to drive that 1000 peak watt sub...safely?

I would think so. The amp puts out around 300 watts rms...which is in the 75% rms power range of the sub should be enough power to push it pretty well....and is under the power rating of the sub so you won't give it too much....

only one way to find out, throw the Profile amp away....I mean hook it up and see Just kidding. I would give it a try. If it's not good enough, you can buy my amp

I had a Profile Baja 600 amplifier. It had decent power, but didnt come anywhere near its rated output. I was probably lucky if I got 300 MAX out of it. Checking the fuse ratings on an the will give you a good idea of how overrated it is.

I use a older MTX Blue Thunder Pro 150 x 2. It is 150 x 2 RMS @ 2 ohms, the spec sheet that came from MTX said it was actually tested to 209 x 2 RMS @ 2 ohms, talk about underrating! Anyway, in my SPL days I was powering 2 800 watt Audiobahn 10's with it @ 4 ohms, and It really made them thump, I had to cut the gain back because they were being overdriven
I have since mellowed to 2 MB Quart Reference 10's, and it powers them very nicely.

I am not sure if the amp you mentioned is the Profile Clarus series, but that is the only Profile series i would consider decent.

The California series is pretty descent. But ya the Clarus series are good...one of my friends bought one to power a 10 Kicker L5....the amp had 3 30 amp fuses....pushes it quiet nicely.

robtombie,
How powerful was that amp? 3 30amps would be appropriate for 1000 watts or more I whould think.
