Why is my amp shutting off?

I have a RF Punch 250 supplying power to the JL Stealth box 10w3. When I'm cruisin' along for a while with the volume up the amp overheats and shuts off for 1-2 minutes. I was under the impression that these 2 would work perfect together? Do I need a bigger amp?

What impedance are the VC's of your JL sub? Is your amp bridged? I don't know anything about the amp from just a model number.

You either have a load that is too low for your amp to handle causing it to go into thermal protection mode or you have your amp's gain set way too high.

I'll have to check, but I think the gain is turned up a good bit. I'll back it off some and see what happens. Thanks for the help!
