Bose CD player stopped working in 94Z28

bought a replacement Bose CD player from a guy who said it came from a 95Z28

physically, it looks exactly the same, except the Delco logo is in a different place.

plug and play, but it's much louder now at low levels than before. can't even turn it half way up, it's like it's double-amped compared to the old one.

anyone know what is happening?

Your old deck was probably shorting out somewhere and not outputting as much as it should have. Just guessing of course.
