Where to install tweeters
Where to install tweeters
With component speakers, where do most of you mount your tweeters? Right now mine are mounted on the small black triangles in the door, kind of at ear level. I'm thinking about getting a new set of component speakers and they don't have an angle mount, so I'm thinking about mounting them down low, near the mid driver in the door. I'm not sure how this would sound though.
Re: Where to install tweeters
Try using double sided tape on the back of your new tweeters. Experiment with different locations on your doors till you find what you like. Then figure out how to do it. You may want to keep it the way you have it now. Or you may like the sound better with the tweets closer to the mid-woofers. This would require doing some door panel surgery on a Camaro since there isn't a factory tweeter pod like in Firebirds.
Personally I prefer the tweets close to the mid-woofers. Providing you can aim them properly.

Re: Where to install tweeters
I always wanted to fab something like the a-pilar guage pods to mount a tweeter. Could buy one for driver side but would have to do some fiberglass for pass side I guess. I won't get the components until I figure out how I will do it.
Re: Where to install tweeters
I've always heard that the closer you mount the tweeter to the mid range speaker the better it will sound. I actually mounted my pair tweeters in the door, mainly because whoever owned the car before me put a set of tweeters there but just screwed them into the door leaving two big holes
Anyways, it didn't sound to bad, but the tweeters I bought weren't strong enough to handle my system and they started to crackle and breakup when I turned the stereo up.

Re: Where to install tweeters
sound stage is best when your main speakers ie midrange and tweeter are as close to equidistant from the drivers ears. That is why kick panels are real popular. But our fbody's location is pretty good. And yes keep the mids and tweets close together.
