Wheel controls Question

Im sure this has been posted before but this is my first time in here so here goes. I have a pioneer head unit that I want to put in my 02 Z, but I have the steering wheel sound system controls. Ive heard mixed stories on this, but apparently theres something out there that can be used to salvage those controls with an aftermarket head unit. Anybody Know??

Hey ... I was just talking to a guy i know in town that owns a car stereo shop.. heres the low-down..

Yes it can be done.. the addapter is like 70 bucks.. you have to take your steering colum<sp?> apart.. and you only maintain the volume and tuner ability...Its a royal pain the **** and probably not worth the 70 bucks and the time involved...

I also ran into the same problem when I first bought my car (see sig). It was totally not worth the effort. It cost $200 cdn for the adapter kit and another $150 cdn to install because it takes approx. 5 hrs. to do it.

Also, just to let you know that if you have the BOSE system in your car and you replace the stock BOSE heat unit with an aftermarket head unit you will also have to replace all the speakers to aftermarket. The reason for this is that the BOSE headunit has no power and runs off a pre-amp which also powers your speakers. Also, the speakers are not the normal car audio 4 ohm they are 2 ohm and will not work with an after market head unit.

5hrs???? Thats a little excessive, its not really that difficult at all. It consists of mounting a remote sensor and tapping into a few wires as far as I know. Either way 5hrs is ridiculous an alarm install doesn't take 5hrs. Around here they go for $80 at shops however dealer price is about $35 and thats out of an fairly expensive wholesaler, so theres gotta be someone selling them alot cheaper.

I have the 10speaker bose system in my '95 and the cd unit skips like MAD

and I would love to replace it or fix it. (Not many people seem to have the skipping problem and I know of no fixes)

so - what is involved in replacing the stock Bose head unit? do I really have to replace all the speakers, HU, and get an amp? (all this besides an annt. adapter, wiring harness, dash kit, and steering whl cntrl adapter)
