Question What encoding do you like your MP3's?

I know the higher the number the better but what is the minimum you will accept? IMO anything under 128 does not sound to good.

128 is a good sound quality vs file size bit rate... I accidently recorded a bunch at 56...

but 128 is the my pick for Min.

I try to keep mine at 192kb/sec, but it depends on the music. I have an 80s pop compilation where most of the songs came off crappy quality AAD CDs, so encoding them at a higher bitrate really doesnt shine much. But a well recorded CD with a lot of intricacies like piano, strings, or a female soprano really demand a higher bitrate.

I agree though that 128 is the absolute LOWEST i can tolerate.

At one time all that the HUs were capable of was 128kbps but Now most of em will do 320kbps. To me, 320 sounds friggin awesome.....

My Pioneer DEH-7400MP can read and play back variable bitrate MP3s. Now those are the best yet!
