what amp to power 3 jl 12w3d4 subs
You could use the jbl 1200.1 but you would not be getting max power out of it, your load would be 2.6 ohms and that amp puts out max power at 2 ohms. So the amp would put out about 1000 to 1100W RMS.
I've never seen an amp that didn't have a gain control?

what do u mean i wont be gettin full power out of them
the w3 handles like 250 watts each i thought
so i wouldnt be using all the amp....
or are u sayin that i wont be usin amp to full potential

he meant that you wouldn't be using that amp to its fullest potential. The difference between 1000 and 1200 watts is not audible anyways, since it takes twice the power to achieve a theoretical 3 db increase, adding 20% more power will be sligghtly less than 1 db and reducing that even more are the real factors that you encounter. Non linear cms, Bl compression and power compression.
1db is considered by most as the minimum detectable change in volume, and at 140 or so db's it is unlikely that it will be at all detectable, so i say go for the JBL 1200.1 if you like or if you do think that a smidge more power would be good maybe the MTX 8100d. It is all your choice, but the little difference in power will likely not be detectable by the human ear.
