what am i doing wrong??

i just got a box for my 96 camaro that fits two 12's. ive got rockford fosgate punch series subs and 2 scosche 500 watt amps. and i cant get it to do anything. ive got the remote wire run to the remote on the head unit but the amps still stay on all the time. and the subs arent even playing a bit. i have a splitter for the main power wire, and for the remote wire, and ground. the yellow light on the amp is on but i dont know what that light is for because there is 4 led lights and I bought everything in an amp rack and the bottom cover on the amp was replaced with plexiglass so i dont know what each light is for. any help is appreciated.

Re: what am i doing wrong??

im not positive, but doesnt a wire have to run to the ignition so that the amp only supplies power when the key is turned? Just something to look into...

I agree, the light should be either green or red when they're on and working properly. Check to make sure you've not wired your subs for too little resistance. Some amps won't run low impedences. Also check for a short issue with the speaker wires.

Try this: Remove the remote lead and speaker wires from the amps, so you only have power and ground hooked up to them. Now take a little piece of short wire, and touch both the remote lead connector and the power wire at the same time. This will send 12v to your remote lead, turning it on. After a few seconds, a red or green light should come on and stay on. This will let you know if the amp is turning on correctly. Then, disconnect the little jumper and hook your subs back up. Turn on some tunes (low volume), go back and jump the same amp. If it turns on and you get sound, there is a problem with your remote, (or there was a problem with your sub wiring that you just fixed).

Do the same for the other amp to test.

Also, how are the amps getting signal? Some head units have their Non fader (sub channel) turned off, so you'll have to turn it back on.

Re: what am i doing wrong??

i finally got the instructions from the guy i bought the amps off of and the yellow light is for low voltage, so i messed around a while and finally tried running a new ground wire, and that fixed it. my only problem now is im afraid of cracking my backglass. here are some pics, the leppard print kind grows on you after a while, the girls love it. any ideas on something else to cover it with? thats cool that you got it fixed, but the leopord has to go! thats just not gonna cut it. oh and you wont break that rear glass with those subs. now if you got to Kicker Solo X or jackhammers, you might be able to break that rear window.
