upgrade to 791xv

good morning. i currently have a viper alarm system in the car...can't remember which. I just purchased a 791xv, but since i'm a cheap ****, I want to install it myself. How much of the old wirring do you think I can recycle? If any of you have installed this system, are there anythings I should be looking out for? any help would be much appreciated.

thx,

how old is the old viper alarm? do you know what model it is? if its not too old you maybe able to just plug the harness into the new brain. also is the old viper remote start? if you are adding remote start you will need to connect a tach wire, brake wire, neutral safety switch wire and hood pin switch. also you will need to bypass the VATS system for the remote start to work. that will require measuring the resistance in the chip in your key and wiring a resistor matching your key's "resistor value" to a relay and then wire it to the vats wire.

thanks for the info. the alarm is at least 3-4 years old. I can't remember the model number...I'm not going to be able to use the remote start feature...it's a manual trans...unless there's something I don't know about that...
thx,

there is ways to bypass the clutch for remote start, its just not recommended because if the car is left in gear and remote starts it could take off, one guy i know has remote start on his manual and he left it in gear and the car jumped forward and hit a parked car infront of him.
