Unlock radio

I put a new battery in my car and it reset the clock and radio and put it into a lock postion. I dont know the number to unlock it but i took it to the dealer and the guy said $40 for dealer to do it or $20 for him to do it on the side, right now and said it will take about 10min just wondering if anyone could help me or tell me how to reset everything ?

Re: Unlock radio

And that is why I am here...lol.

Theftloc Bypass

1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed
2. Write the numbers down.
3. Press the AM FM button, write down the next 3 numbers
4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 139010*, when asked enter the 4 or 6 digit code (obtained from Steps 1-3) from the radio and an *, for example using my code, 702712*, you will get an unlock code, write it down.
5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio
To remove customers code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.

Copy and paste it into a text file for later use if need be.

You can pull the battery cable off for 5 months, the codes are still there, if you have a soft or intermittent failure it will go out temporarly. Any other codes will be there when you reconnect.

The theftlock will only engage if you disconnect the radio when the battery is connected, and then not even all the time.

Uh, negative ghost rider. If your theftlock is working properly, as soon as the battery is disconnected, the radio is locked. Perhaps your theftlock is unarmed. Mine does it every single time.

Odd, i did the same thing to my jeep after i had a check engine light for about 2 months. Changed my o2's and pulled the batt cable for roughly 15 mins and all codes were gone.

Short of a pred how would you recomend clearing codes once the problem has been corrected? The local autozone wont clear them, they say that only a licensed mechanic can and they dont want to be liable. So short of getting charged to have my car scanned by a mechanic or dealer how would you recomend clearing them?

The info in the response you quoted is not written clearly. I think what the author was trying to say is that is you have an active code, no matter how long you leave the PCM without power, it will not clear the active codes. This is obvisouly correct. As long as the problem is "active", the code will still be there, and if its a code that lights the SES light, the light will stay on.

What isn't clear from the post is that if you have only stored codes for previous problems that have gone away, or been fixed, you CAN clear them by pulling the power from the PCM. An easy way to do this without risking security problems with the radio is to leave the key on the "off" position, and pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds.

The "stored" codes will "self-clear" after a predetermined number of "drive cycles" have occured, wthout the problem happening again.

Re: Unlock radio

Resurrected from the dead, I know.. BUT..

Have the same problem, was like that when I bought the car. I can't enter a code at all... it says Inop anytime you try. I tried the above procedure, but pressing buttons 2&3 together for MINUTES did nothing... any help there? I don't understand how you can get a KEY for your car for cheap with a proof of ownership but unlocking your OWN stereo costs so much......

Re: Unlock radio

Ok, while we got this back from the dead, I was wondering something. I bought a radio off Ebay and when it arrived today and I installed it, I found that it was locked. I did a search (how I found this thread) and using the FINE INFORMATION provided by shouldaboughtthez I got it unlocked and working. I tried to delete the codes in the radio however, and it wouldnt show me the screen --- that it was supposed to. I got a feeling the code is still in there so my question is this: If I keep the info I got from doing the code retrieval, and if I keep the unlock code given to me by GM, will I be able to unlock it again with that same info? Or will I have to go thru the process of retrieving and calling and putting codes back in all over again?

Re: Unlock radio

Wow, thanks a lot. I put a new battery in today and it was locked. The dealership wanted $95! There's no way I was going to pay that much...

Resurrected yet again:

Before I found this thread, I was dumb and just tried to figure out what the code might be. Tried too many times and now the radio displays "inop" when I hit the hr or min buttons. Is it possible to revive this radio, or has it bit the dust for good now? Any info would be great. Thanks.
