two 10's or one 12" in a Millhouse box?

I'm looking at putting either two Alpine Type R 10's or one Alpine Type R 12" sub into a millhouse box.

I am an older type listener, so musical accuracy is most important to me. I don't care that much about SPL. I mostly listen to everything (pop, rock, country, top 40 etc), except rap and R&B.

With that said, would two 10's be best or one 12? Also are the Alpines a good sub for my listening type? I chose the alpines because many people sell them around here and they are recommended for the millhouse box.

Thanks!

If your not really listening to hip hop then I would suggest 1 really good 10" sub. 12" subs are boomier and produce a deeper bass. a 10" is cleaner and for clean sound you really don't need 2. I have/had (trying to sell...) a single 10" JLW6.v2 in a mill house box. I had it powered by a 5 channel soundsteam rubicon 550 amp. had the rest of the car speakers running off that amp too. Everyone who was ever in my car always asked me if I had (1) 12" or (2) 12" subs. No one could believe that a single 10" sub could sound that good. If I didn't need the $$$ I woudl be putting the sub in my next car, but financial hardships arose. I believe in clean systems. I listen to everything from hardcore metal to hip hop and my set up was clean and hit hard. If your interested I am still selling the Mill house box with the SS in vinyl with the JL10W6.v2. The enclosure I am selling for $180. and the sub I am selling for $200. I will sell both together for $350. That also saves on shipping. The enclosure was designed for that sub. it has .7 cubic ft air space. and since the v2 is deeper than most subs It has a .25" spacer. Even if you don't buy my stuff. make sure you tell subthump the subs you are going to be putting in the enclosure so they can design the enclosure correctly. . good luck.. email me at kennard@bbsarch.com if you have any questions.

I'd agree with Silver in that 12s will hit lower, but I don't think that a 10 is any cleaner sounding than a 12. I haven't set up my Z28 w/sound yet, but I run a pair of DVC 10" in my Z71 and I'm a lot like you....older than 30 but not yet middle aged....and I love clean-sounding music. Of course, I'm pushing plenty of power into those 10s, but I absolutely love their sound.

I used to run just the single DVC, but picked up a second and am so glad that I did. As a musician, I like it to be a little loud sometimes, yet I don't want to **** off the neighbors. Those two 10s did the trick for me.

I hate hearing nothing but bass, so I made sure that I also had a quality set of satellites that are also getting plenty of power. With that combo, I'm extremely satisfied. My RTA is as flat as my high-school girlfriend, yet I can hit 140db with my modest system....and that's PLENTY loud enough for me.

In my opinion, as long as your box is sealed well and not ported, you'd probably enjoy a pair of tens as much, if not more than, a single 12. But again, that's just my opinion.

If you are looking for crisp bass I suggest you get one or two eight inch subwoofers. They don't hit as low so the sound is cleaner. But what ever you get, Alpine makes really good speakers. Good luck.
