Are theMtxThunder6500d good amps?

It says it will crank out 500 watts in 4 ohm mono load and 775 watts in 2 ohm mono load. Are those amps very stable at 2 ohm mono? Is the wattage rms or peak watts. For $309.00. Sounds like a very good amp to slap on 2 12 inch woofers. Any one got suggestions on any good 12 inch woofers other than JLs that won't break the bank. No more than $150.00 a piece? Here are those amps.

A pair Adire Audio Shivas will reach full linear X Max in a 1.5 cube sealed box (each). They are phenominal subs, and when you consider the price they are unbeatable. $125 each shipped to your door with a 3 year MFR warranty.

That MTX amp is a great amp!!!

Cool. Where do I get them? What kind of spl do you think I would get with that amp and 2 subs? Most likely sealed but maybe ported .

2 shivas off that amp would make for a good setup.

You can get them here: http://www.adireaudio.com

In 1.5 cubic feet each sealed with that power I'd say low to mid 140s depending on the install. rthompson would be able to give you a more accurate guess.

So is that bone crushing bass? Those hit harder than the Kicker Comp VRs? Also, does that amp have a bass boost like other mtx amps. Many of them have the 18db gain at 45hz.

Depends what bone crushing is to you. To me it wouldn't be excessive or anything for a daily driver. It's impossible to compare them to a comp vr without knowing what kind of box the comp vrs would be in. different subs like different enclosures.

I'm not sure what features that amp has but you won't need a bass boost and using bass boost usually causes problems for most people. It can make the bass sound un-natural and cause the subs to blow if the gains aren't set right.

Well, Ill tell you what my old setup was. It was a Kicker ZR240 with 2 Kicker Comp12s in a sealed enclosure in a 96 Camaro. The box itself was built to the bottom of the cubby hole to about 4 inchs above the whole itself. It was your typical enclosure for a Camaro. I was totally satisfied with that setup. I heard that amp spec from the factory at a mere 300 watts in 2 ohm mono load. But actuall output was more close to 500 from car stereo review. It really did slam IMO. It would vibrate my teeth very good and make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I would dare to say that mtx amp has even more power than that old zr240. Now it is possible I can get my old system back for a very good deal. I sold it with the car in 98. Altho it's 5 years old now. I can get it with box, amp and subs for a very good deal. So I'm debating on getting that or go all new again. If I do have problems. I can always replace as I go. Basically it looks like I can trade it for an older Sony dolby pro logic receiver with koss center channel and surrounds. I think my old setup is worth trading my old receiver for it. What do you think?

The 6500D is a GREAT amp. I'm using one in my setup. The amp includes the following:

* Line inputs & outputs
* Speaker level inputs
* EQ (adjustable 18dB bass boost @ 40Hz)
* Frequency Adjustable 18dB/octave low pass crossover
* EBC (Electronic Bass Control)

The EBC is simply a remote mounted gain control. When used it bypasses the gain control on the amp. I have one but never use it. I would have preferred that it be an EQ rather than a gain control.

Your power specs are off though. My "Performance Certificate" has my amp rated at 395W into 4ohms and 592W into 2ohms.

Is it very 2 ohm stable. 592 watts is a good bit of power.

My amp has NO problems at all driving my Alpine Type-S @ 2ohms. And it runs surprisingly cool at 2ohms too. Hell, my Thunder 4202 gets hotter running my Boston Acoustics @ 4ohms than the 6500D gets driving 2 ohms.

From my personal experience, they are great subs.... of course when i had one i threw 1000 watts on it and i did heat it up a bit , but anything under 600 and you should be fine... 400 is ideal, and 250 still pounds great sub.

Lucky you, I just upgraded to a 6500 today. I'm VERY impressed with this amp. My birth sheet has it rated at 405 Watts at 4 ohms (.331 THD) and 625 Watts into 2 ohms(.421), all at 12.5 Volts DC. FREAK!

The sound of the amp is very nice, although you can tell where MTX cuts back to save you money. If you look at say a JL 500/1, and look at all the sound adjustments on it and then compare it to the MTX 6500D, you will see a huge difference in quality tuning ability. That being said, if you had this hooked up to a crossover, where you got those controls, you wouldn't be lacking anywhere. The power this thing puts out is top notch. Minty!

PS. I recommend Infinity subs

Actually thats NOT freak at all for MTX amp, MTX amps put out WAY more than their ratings, they are some of the best amps for the price on the market. I'm using an old 2150x to push 2 10" JLw3s, and it hits fairly well. Wish I had the Shiva's now but oh well, I was lazy and didn't want to wait for the shipping to come in. This amp pushed my old 15" MTX5000s back in the day with no problem. 2 x 150 my ***.
