Question TheftLoc and no code :(

Here's the scenerio.. left a light on in the car and the damn battery died. The day I bought the car. I recently picked up a 99 Z28 (after trading in my 97Z) Well this one still has the monsoon system and since the swapping of the batteries my stereo is now locked and I don't have the code to unlock it. Does anyone know if there is a factory bypass of some sort? I've tried this

1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed
2. Write the numbers down.
3. Press the AM FM button, write down the next 3 numbers
4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 202107, press the “button” and enter the 6 digit code from the radio, you will get an unlock code, write it down.
5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio
To remove customers code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.
Well I tried pushing the 2 & 3 presets and it doesn't seem to do a thing. Do I do this with the car off or with the stereo on? I've tried it with the car on.

Anyone.. I'd like to have some tunes.

Thanks..

-Jason

That unlock process doesn't seem to work anymore. If you don't have your code I think you're pretty much stuck with having to pay a dealership about $50 or more to unlock it for you. Which in my opinion is a load of horse crap. As long as you can prove that you are the owner of the car they should unlock the damn thing for no charge.

So basically there is nothing us owners can do to override a lost or unknown code other than take it to the shop?

I had to get this done when I moved my factory deck from my basement to my father's truck (I went aftermarket with my audio system years before).

The local dealer did it for $0 - so you might get that kinda service too, if you go to the right sort of dealer.
