i need to do this is steps because i dont have a ton of money off hand.

i have the first step done i have a sony xplod head unit that i had in my mustang that i absolutely love, its the higher end one, its got like 52wx4.

now i know speakers are next, i want to get components thats all i know. i dont know what are a good set or not. and should i get an amp to make these sound there best? what amp should i get?
what rear speakers should i get?

this is all i want to do for now, i will worry about the sub and stuff at a later time i just want some sound in this car its to damn boring juts listening to road noise all the time.

Well, personally I would sell the Sony Xplod head unit... Since Sony quit making good car audio stuff a few years ago.
As for the 52 watts x 4 rating... Yeah, it would probably put out that much power if it were on fire! Head units are always over rated and always listed as peak power, and not RMS. It is probably about 12 RMS.

For a good idea on a system, check out this thread.

If you get components, you've got to get an amp. You can do without rear speakers for now. Just get a 4 channel amp and the front components. By goign with the 4 channel amp, you leave yourself those two channels to power your rear speakers if you add them later. Then later down the road you can also add a sub and an amp.

For the components and amp, look at the thread I linked too. You can install the amp, head unit, and speakers yourself... however, if you have never done it before, I would have a friend (who has done it before) help you out. As for wire, you will need two sets of RCA cables to run from the head unit to your amp. When you add the sub later, you will need another set to go to your sub amp. Then you need wires to go from the amp to the speakers, you wanna get 16 gauge or 12 gauge. Go here for all your wire -> www.knukonceptz.com, look at one of their amp installation kits, they include everything you need to hook up a 4 channel amp.

if you are going to go with a 4ch. amp and later add another amp for a sub you are going to want to buy a dual amp kit. the dual amp kit is a 4 gauge wire that goes into a dual fused distribution block then out to two 8 gauge wires, that way you dont have to run a second power wire and you dont want to loop it off the 4ch amp. it will also come with a ground distribution block, RCA cables, amp turn on wire, and speaker wires. also make sure you run your power wires down one side of the car and your RCA's down the other to eliminate any chance of interferance.
as for the components you dont have to get a amp but you will get better sound of course with an amp, usually with the component kit, there will be a crossover where you would plug the main +/- for like the front left into, then it will has a woofer out and tweeter out. there will be a crossover for each sub & tweeter set. The other thing you have to look at since you do have a old sony is the amount of outputs you have on the back, it may only have a rear out, or a aux in.
