stereo sticking out

Hello,
I have a 99z and am thinking of upgrading the stereo set up. I know in the older camaro's you have to buy an adapter to fit a normal, not double din, cd player in there and it stuck out like an inch and a half. I heard they fixed that on the newer camaros. Just wanted to see if that was true. I was also wondering if anyone has some pics of their recievers, in car, just so I can get a sense of what it is going to look like.

they stick out about 3/4" in most kits.. although Metra sells a "flush" kit.. it requires you to do some "trimming" inside the radio pocket, there's a tab in the back that needs to be removed for extra depth.

There's some pics in the red wesbite button below...

with the tab gone, my sony deck (flip out face) only stuck out far enough to flip. becareful with this though, when i wired the changer in, i had to get a spacer to make the plug fit behind it. now it sticks out probably 1/2" total.

97formula, did you buy the kit or just remove or bend the tab? Does anyone know how much the flush kit costs? I am planning on getting the brand new sony black panel display flip face.

I removed the tab, and made my own mounting kit out of a sheet of 1/8" aluminum.

raceguy,
The stereo looks good, I'm assuming that was mounted with the metra flush mount kit. I'm going to run the stereo I posted earlier, 4 6 1/2" sony 3 ways (60 watt rms) to infintity kappa four inchers (2-way), one Sony XS-L101P5 10" sub in the diver's side kick panel and I haven't decided between sony or profile amps yet. Anyway thanks for the info everyone.

It was mounted with whatever cheap kit my cousin had working at a stereo shop
if you want to be able to turn the mids/highs up, you'll want an amp on them... the stereo is rated at 54 watts or whatever, but thats max power not RMS... i know i started out with 4 6.5" cerwin vega (2 3-way, 2 2-way) and two sony 10" with a sony amp (760 max output)... when i turned the volume up, the mids/highs didnt get enough power and i just got popping sounds. I ended up with one of the sony EQ amps on my mids/highs (as you can see on my site).
once i got the mids/highs where i wanted them i was dissappointed in the bass. the sony amp doesnt put out much power, and the speakers arent very loud. thats when i switched to the single solobaric 10" which was much better than the TWO sony 10" speakers and a clarion 1000.1 amp.
just something to think about if you dont want to redo everything when you arent happy with it.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I went to the link the ls1 rulz posted and is says that the kit only goes up to a 1996 camaro but all the way up on the trans am. Will it work for my 99z28? I thought that they had the same interior.

My TA is a '99 and the kit fits great once you snap off all the parts that you don't need.
