steering wheel/stereo

im looking at a 1986 Z-28, and its got a nasty steering wheel and radio in it. so i was thinking cheap-er ways that i could kill 2 birds with one stone, and then i thought that i could buy a 4th gen radio off ebay (run about 50bucks) and install that. but then i thought about the wheel, and i thought maybe a 4th gen wheel would fit too, but i was wondering if it would? and if i could hook the radio controls on the wheel to the radio?

if someone has done/knows how to do this/or if this would even work, plz help me out

pics of what a 4th gen wheel in a 3rd gen would help too

thanks

Re: steering wheel/stereo

I can't offer you much in the way of specifics, but here is what I know. I am replacing the Monsoon system with an aftermarket system, and I understand there is an infrared adapter (wireless, in other words) that will provide steering wheel button signals to the HU. Unfortunately, I don't know who makes the IR part. Others on this board are way more knowledgable, and may chime in. I've found the factory "500 watt" Monsoon system to be utter crap, and a waste of money. I will never purchase another Bose product again.
