Steering wheel radio controls
Steering wheel radio controls
I want to get these in my car. I see I can get a used wheel off ebay for $60, my question is did my car (year 2000 camaro) come prewired for the optional steering wheel or will i have to buy the wiring part and route it? It would be sweet if all i had to do was change the wheel out and plug it in. If this ins't the case I still assume that my stock monsoon head unit will have a plug to accpet the controls, i don't GM would go that far to try and save a few bucks. I need to talk with someone who has done this, it would be a lot easier then taking my wheel out just to answer these questions.
thanks guys

come on guys, all i want to know is if my 2000 camaro which does not have the controller wheel has the wiring for the controls or do i have to buy a new harness assembly?
Please don't make me take all of this apart just to see if I need to buy a part
I know somebody has done this before
I have done the search and have not found this answer.
thanks

hey dude, I got this done back in october, I had to buy the wheel and a new airbag coil, the coil is the swivel piece that's directly behind the wheel, It's a black plastic unit. I spent like $140 for this part from the dealership but if I knew then what I know I would have gone to www.gmpartsdirect.com and got it probably for 70% of that, I didn't check on that but I'm sure you can get it much cheaper thru GM parts direct instead of a dealership. I got the wheel off ebay and reused my airbag. On my car all I had to do was
first remove the steering wheel, you need a puller.
1. take off the old part by removing the snap ring
2. remove the lower panel to unplug the airbag wires.
3. yank the old piece out.
4. run the new wires down the column, this was the hardest part because of stuffing the extra harness thru the slots.
5. and I was relieved that that was all it took and GM was kind enough to do half the wiring for us, I'm sure your pontiac will be thee same way. So after you get your wheel and coil this will cost you about $160, it cost me like $200 but it was worth it.
