Question Steering wheel control

Hi everybody!
I'm Oli, from Germany, and I hope to find some technical assistance here.
Here's the problem:

I have removed the stock (AC DELCO) radio from my '94 Firebird, and have replaced it with an AC DELCO CD player from a '02 Pontiac. (I don't know if it's from a Firebird, because I bought it on eBay. I just know, that it's from a Pontiac, and that it has a '02 part number...)
The problem is, that my steering wheel controls don't work with this radio. Is there anything I can do about this?
I mean, there's just one cable coming from my steering wheel. The mating side on the back of the CD player has 8 "pins". I've tried all of them, but it still wouldn't work.
Does anybody have an idea?
Thanks very much in advance!

Oli

My 96 sends all the commands to the radio from the steering wheel controls via a single wire. That wire is in the main connectors on the right side (looking at rear) of the factory radio.

Now, just left of center on my factory radio is another secondary connector, that connector is for the factory option CD Changer. If you don't have the factory CD Changer, then you wouldn't use that connector.

Of course, I don't use my factory unit from my 96 any more since I have gone to an aftermarket setup, but I have wired a converter in to make the stock steering wheel controls work with my aftermarket head unit.

Hope the info helps... Best of luck finding a solution to your problem...

I know that the older Firebirds/ T/As had different steering wheel controls than mine does. Some were down the sides of the center of the wheel, where as mine are teardrop or D shaped and in the "wings" of the wheel. But I wouldn't think that would cause the interface to be different.

Thanx!

Thanks for the info. I have this 'old style' steering wheel
But $ 95.00 for this converter?
I'd rather get a new steering wheel from some junk yard...
I prefer the 'new' design anyway...

I might be misunderstanding you, but swapping your "old style" steering wheel for a "new style" wheel will not solve your problem. No matter what year or design f-body you have, if you switch to an aftermarket head unit you will loose you steering wheel controls.

Now then. I know the PAC SWI-X works with the new style steering wheels, however I'm not sure about the old......

@ firebirdude:

I didn't change to an aftermarket HU...
I've replaced the factory (AC DELCO) cassette player from my '94, with an AC DELCO cd player from a '02 Pontiac. It's still a stock HU, just another year (and CD instead of cassette)..
Someone told me, that '95 - up Firebirds steering wheel controls are sending different signals than '93-'94 models.
Do you think PAC SWI-X can fix that?

Sorry got confused with other topic.....

No, the PAC SWI-X will not fix it. It uses an IR signal. Just like the aftermarket h/u's remote. Since the stock unit does not have a remote control, your out of luck with that option. I retract my last post and your steering wheel swap just might work!
