Starter Kill Help

Ok guys and gals. Heres the thing: I want to make a starter kill for my car (Have to bring it into a some rough areas and cant afford a really nice alarm). Ive read Brents ( http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/starterkill.htm ) guide but what I want to do is a little different. First off Im not doing this in conjunction with an alarm and second I want it wire to a seperate on/off switch, rather than something like the window or headlight switches.

I want to help you help me. Below is a link to some pictures so you know exactly what im working with. I would like to know exactly what goes where. It would be awesome if someone could say 85 connects to ground, 86 connects to a 12v, you do this and this with the starter wire, and so on.

Pics

Thanks for any help. I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I have no one else to teach me .

Re: Starter Kill Help

You can do it just like on my page except what you would do is instead of using the window up switch you would run a wire to constant 12v and splice your switch in the middle of that wire. That would give you 12v to the starter kill relay when the switch is ON. Just don't leave the switch on for an extended period of time with the car off because eventually it'll drain your battery

I'll move this to the Electrical questions forum

Re: Starter Kill Help

Just use a momentary switch, no worries about draining battery then.

86 to gnd
30 to one side of the starter wire
87 to the other side of the starter wire
85 to one side of a SPST momentary switch

and another wire from the switch to a 12v

Re: Starter Kill Help

To do what you want, you don't need the relay. You simply interrupt the voltage from the ignition switch to the theft deterrent relay with the switch and viola. This is a low current line and won't require a relay. This can be done through the yellow wire at the huge 48 pin connector by the driver, between the kick panel the steering column. The yellow wire can be cut either on the large 48 pin black connector, middle row of wires, 2nd from the end. Or you can cut the yellow wire from the mate connector. Just put one end of the wire on one switch contact and the other end of the yellow wire on the other contact (or if there are 3 contacts use the com and NO).

You can mount the switch through the bottom panel of the dash by your left knee. This will keep the starter from working even if someone pulls out the ignition switch and shorts the wires together.

You may want to consider putting the switch on either the ignition system or the fuel system however, since there are other ways of making the starter crank even with your switch in place.

Re: Starter Kill Help

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll use a momentary switch. Do I need normally on or normally off? Also how do I connect the pins on the realy to the wires. Can I strip the wire and wrap it around the holes?

Will this work? :

86 to a ground
30 to one side of the starter wire
87 to the other side of the starter wire
85 to one side of a SPST momentary switch
and then the other side of the switch to a 12v

Should that make the car only start when Im holding down the button on the momentary switch?
