Speaker suggestions
Speaker suggestions
So I've decided to gut my bose system completely rather than trying to mix bose speakers with other aftermarket equipment. I'm having trouble deciding on a good set of door speakers, and a good seat of rear side panel speakers. There is so many variables to consider - 2 way vs. 3 way, watts, size etc. Anyone have any thoughts on a particular model/size speaker for either location? Both door and rear are 6 1/2 inch right? The rest of my setup includes a Premier head unit, 800W pioneer amp, and 2 10" kenwood subs in stealth boxes. Thanks.
Re: Speaker suggestions
What does your amp put out RMS per channel? Total watts doesnt really mean jack. Also, look into component speakers up front and some mid basses in the sail panels. I just got regualr speakers all around, but now im going back and getting components up front and mid basses in the rear. So people will tell you to go with speakers up front only, which is fine i guess, but i want to re create the original set up, just with much better speakers and more power.
Re: Speaker suggestions
It's a mono-channel Pioneer amp, 2 ohm continuous power is 350w, and 4 ohm is 250w. Does this help?
With components, does the tweeter have to be mounted in a separate area than the woofer?

Re: Speaker suggestions
Yes, I guess so - this amp was given to me so I can't really complain about that. A better setup may require a different amp, but I'm going to have deal with what I have. Would it be okay to the speakers to the HU? Which speakers would be best given I'll probably be wiring into the HU?
Re: Speaker suggestions
Speaker selection is far too subjective for anyone but you to decide what's "best" for you. For instance, some people swear by MB Quart speakers. Quarts are way too harsh sounding to my ears. I suggest that you go to all the car stereo shops in your area and demo as many speakers as you can with some of your favorite CD's. That's the ONLY way to decide what speakers are right for you.
Once you have the speakers you want I would strongly recommend that you high-pass (block the lows) them. Since you'll be running a sub there is no need for your main speakers to produce sub-bass. This will help the main speakers to play cleaner and handle more power. Since these speakers will be run off of the HU you'll have to go with passive high-pass filters. To do this you could add 400uf (micro farads) of capacitance in series with the speakers. To do that all you would have to do is splice the non-polarized electrolytic capacitors into the + wire going to each speaker. This will form a 1st order (6dB/octave) high-pass filter at about 100Hz.
