Sony Xplod sucks
Sony Xplod sucks
I recently bought all Sony Xplod for my Firebird,( I got 6 mo. SAC with my Sony card). I knew it wasn't the best, so I got the most expensive speakers and amp they had and a decent deck. When it was all said and done I had as follows:
CDX-m800 CD player
XS-HF600G 6 1/2" component set(299.99 for this garbage!)
XS-HD160G 6 1/2" 3 way speakers
XM-460GTX 60Wx4 Amp
End result? Sounds like sh*t. I figured if it sounded half as good as my Excelon/PPI/Focal/Polk equipped GTP, I'd be happy. Sounds alot worse than I expected, Its all going back tomorrow.
Just a heads up.

Okay, heres the new setup to replace the Xplod crap:
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X769(105db S/N, 5V outputs)
Alpine Type R 6 3/4" component set
Alpine Type R 6 3/4" Coaxials
MTX Thunder 404(50Wx4 @ 4 ohms)
This setup should sound alot better, I don't want to spend alot of money as this is not my daily driver.
What do y'all think? Better?

I have Focal Polykevlar 165K2s in my GTP paired with Polk EX3 6x9s and a PPI 4 channel amp and it sounds fuggin awesome.
This time I had to buy from Crutchfield to get 6mo Nopay,Nointerest because I can't really swing $1500 for combo right now. Crutchfield doesn't carry the GOOD stuff, or else I would have bought it. I did replace all the speaker wiring and am running 4 ga power and ground wires and all gold terminals and spades( I know its overkill, I want it to sound as good as possible).

Of what [insertoverpircedonlineretailer] does carry, I'd go with Infinity comps. The mids are clearer but you loose a little midbass. I prefer to have my vocals not be muddy like the Type-R's will do. But it's all up to you really. Just a suggestion. Don't ever buy Polk speakers again. I have had some really bad experiences with that company and don't trust them or their little heart.
So far I haven't had a bad experience with a Sony product yet although I have read many horror stories and don't trust their products very much.
I would recommend that you ditch the rear speakers and get a sub or run the rears off the HU and get a sub. Unless you're worried about what the ppl in the back seat hear.
