solenoid?

i put an optima deep cycle batt. in my trunk. how do i wire the solenoid so that the stereo only runs off of that batt. while the car is running. i had a prob. with my amps not getting enough current, so i put a batt. in the trunk to cure the prob. but i must have done it wrong cause it still sucks power from the rest of the system and my alt. light has just come on, on the way home tonight. please help

thanx devan

If you system is pulling more amps than your alternator can provide then you will always be in a negative balance and your car will eventually drain out no matter how many batteries you have. A soilenoid is ment to separate the rear battery when the car is not running( like the car is off, or it's in Aux) they will reconnect once the car is running, and if your alt isn't providing enough amps both batteries will drain. Sounds to me like you are in need of a High performance alternator.

what if i used an isolater under the hood? would that stop the batt. in the trunk from sucking power from the rest of the elec. system for the stereo? FYI i have 110 amp alt. with (1) JBL 1200.1 and (2) JBL 180.2 w/ (4) 12" audiobahns

Yep, but you'd have to remove your aux battery to charge it whenever it drops below 12 volts.

No wonder you are having problems, that's alot of watts. Try backing off the gains on both amps and see if that helps out a little till you can get a HO alternator.
