Shorting out head units
I have a 96 altima that I have been having goofy head unit trouble with. For starters, I have installed at LEAST 100 head units in every different car imaginable. So I know what I am doing until now. I installed a kenwood cd player in the car about six months ago, two months after that it stop working. It blew the 10 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse and after a day it stop working again without blowing the fuse. When I tested it I found the neg. to be pos. and vice versa. It somehow turned the neg to be pos. I thought a bad player so I took an old clarion and installed it. It was fine for about 3 months then it stopped working. No fuse blew this time, however the head unit's display started working very dimly then brightly like a weak alternator was not giving it enough power. The charging system is fine though. Then it stop working completely. On the clarion I hardwired it to the battery with a 20 amp fuse on the wire and grounded it to the chassis. No amps, or anything else is hooked to the aux ports, just four speakers. This is weird and before I install my expensive head unit from the Camaro in it, I want to see what is going on before I ruin that too. Thanks in advance.
I don't know, but you might look around on this site www.installdr.com and see if there is anything that will help. They have some troubleshooting tips there.
