Re: Rockford Fosgate

Bad topic, but I can't help it For me, Rockfords are better then Hifonics in general, pluses and minuses are:

Rockford:
+ still build in USA (I hope so), build quality is better then any Hifonicses. Main board looks like a state of art.
+ new ones uses better output FET's (Ultra-FETS vs. MOSFET's)
+ THD's are really low, good SQ
+ almost always underrated
+ MUCH less failures/problems
- Price
- If a/b class blew output, it most likely take a speaker with it, sending a full DC (no speaker protection)
- Poor FET's mounting design (MESHA)
- Under-engineered

Hifonics:
+ Price is right for the power you getting
+ Good protection, speakers are protected from DC
+ Looks good IMHO
- Build in China, build quality is crappy, soldering is crappy, main board mounted crappy (it actually vibrates and frequently breaks FET's leads)
- Much more failures then Rockford's
- Mostly all of the amps over-rated
- Under-engineered

If you are referencing purely what you can buy new right now, then in general I think HiFonics amps are a better value, with Rockfords being of slightly better quality with a (very healthy) price premium.

However I must say, that when spending my own money, there is a not a single situation where I would be buying a brand new amplifier. You are much better off identifying your needs, locating a particular few models that suit them, and picking them up used off ebay or whatever.

For just about every application there is a older model that is better built than what is offered nowadays, and if you get lucky you'll also save a bunch of cash.

I would go with Hifonics mainly because of the money, and their amps are pretty decent, a little overrated but decent.

And Kenwood is pure trash.
