Replacing Door Speakers! Size? No-Bass?

I am going to be replacing my door speakers. Can I just cut the wires which go to the stock adapter (which plugs into the stock speaker) and use those to wire my new speaker? I have an aftermarket head unit and it has no bass(checked all controls, speakers just suck) I dont know what it sounded like w/ the stock unit, cuz i didnt own the car then. People tell me that, that is what happens with aftermarket head units(no bass). Is this true?

If my speakers just suck, they are stock and say "Delco Electronics" on the back, what size speakers are they? Is there a certain wattage / ohm I need to get?

is Blaupunkt a good brand? They seem to have them for my car, using the "what fits my car" thing at crutchfield.com. The sizes range from 51/4 to 6 3/4. What is the best size to get?

ok, first off what HU is in there now and how is it installed?

You could just chop the wires, but I personally don't suggest it; but many people do it anyways.

Also what factory speakers are in there? how many are there? There were at
least 3 or 4 different available stereo systems available in firebird.

As for speaker size, the door and sail-panel speakers are 6 3/4" speakers.

Blau is an ok brand, there is a lot better speaker for the $$ out there.

What type of bass are you looking for out of your stereo? Depending on what you are desiring, most 6 3/4" speakers will not reproduce bass very strongly; thus requiring some sort of subwoofer setup in the car.

I have the 4 speaker one, on the back the spakers say Delco Electronics, they are ****. Can handl zero bass prolly the worst ofthe 4 setups. I understand that you dont get much bass from that small of a speaker, I will be getting a sub, but they should still have some bass. I tried measuring my door speakers and I think they are like 51/2 if you measure from the rubber to rubber not the whole mount. I am looking at some 50-60 a pair speakers for the front and back, and then put a sub in the trunk. I dont want the best stereo ever just something that is comparable to my mustangs Mach 350. I have a 10" MTX sub for the back.

trust me... they are 6 3/4" speakers...

Personally I would look into a set of cheaper components for the front, and just a set of mid-bass speakers for the rear. You want the highs upfront, not behind you.

As for brands, check out Infinity, Kicker, RF, CDT, Polk, Pioneer...

Actually they are 6 1/2 I bought a set of DUALs..I kow they are not the most popular brand but at Fries where they have all the speakers setp for you to test those sounded the best, w/ highs.

Ok...

But the stock size seakers are an oversides 6 1/2 or 6 3/4" speaker, most 6.5" will fit though.
