With car audio you get what you pay for.

What "sounds good" will be different across the board. Look for something with a good frequency response (human ear can hear 20-to 20,000 i believe)

Personally I think pioneer speakers are junk unless you go with the premier. I'm not knocking pioneer, but i think they should stick to decks.

I pulled my bose garbage and am running a set of 6.5 infinity kappa perfect speakers off an infinity 4 channel. Sounds amazing.

Correct - but how often do you find a speaker that isn't reproducing the enough of that range? Probably almost never. Do not worry if a speaker can't reproduce sounds down to 20Hz...just because it can reproduce frequencies down there doesn't mean it will sound good, of that you would want it to (more wear on speaker). The lower range should be reproduced by your midbass subs in the sails or better yet, a 10" or 12".

Alpine, Kicker, Infinity, Diamond Audio, Image Dynamics, Zapco, Polk are just a few of the brand I would look into. Any one of them should have a 6.5 that would fit the bill. I am also of the opinion that most mainstream Pioneer and Sony speakers don't compair to the above mentioned brands. I'm a Zapco man and couldn't be happier. I can turn off my sub and still have tight bass. Also if you want it to sound even better use dynamat extreme on surfaces around speakers. It will drastically improove midbass clarity and quiet panel rattle.

I am putting together SQ competition vehicle, and after listening to a LOT of modern 6.5" speakers, I would say that JL Audio ZR650 will beat them all They sounds even better then Focal K2's... Surprisingly, I liked Alpine type-R's more then Focal's too They are very nice components for the money.

I have alway thought the Focal and MB Quart had way to bright of a tweeter. When I worked for CarToys I like the JL the best untill I hear the Image Dynamic cameleons. The had a more detailed tweet and midrange was more detailed. Then I switched to the Diamond Hex. Some people love em some don't. I can tell you that with over 100 watts rms on each speaker they were the best I had owned until the Zapco Competition's came out. Even Car Audio made stated that they were in the top five sets they had ever heard and cheapest at $1300 ratail. Being a dealer I had to try them and they were right. The midbass is great and the tweet has the most detail of any I have heard. Its detailed not harsh.
