Rear speaker size

I have a 94 z28 and i am upgrading the whole system. I was wondering what size speaker fits in drivers side rear trunk? i have a hole there without a speaker or grille. It looks like a 6x9 but its oddly shaped. Any info would be great. I just wanted to fit something over the trim piece cause the hole in it doesnt look so good.

I believe they're 6.5's, they were in my 00 Z28.... but i took a dremel and made 6x9's fit and it sounds great

Re: Rear speaker size

They might be different for a '94. Didn't they have the BOSE system in the 94's with 5-1/4" speakers?

Re: Rear speaker size

They arent a perfect circle like 6.5's they are more or less shaped like a 6x9. Maybe ill just cut out a little bit to make a 6x9 fit.

I cut them out and put 6x9s in there. Doesn't fit great, since they're a little too deep and make the panel protrude a bit.

Re: Rear speaker size

The speakers in the rear hatch are either 4" or a 4x6 plate. You can try to put a 6x9 back there but those plastic trim pieces wont hold that weight very well and plus, you dont really want a oval shaped speaker...it distorts alot easier than a round speaker. Use your front door speakers and your sail panel speakers to give you the sound youre looking for, and if you still want those rear hatch speakers, get a plate for it.

Re: Rear speaker size

I'm sorry, I read your original post wrong, I thought you meant the speakers beside the rear seats. For mine the hatch speakers were 4" round, I cut them out to 5x7's, which was very easy. 6x9's won't fit there, my 5x7's fill the space up pretty much all the way, at least height wise (5").

I wouldn't put 5x7's in there though unless you have some way to cross them over, like an amp. even with mine crossed over fairly high (i think around 200 hz) the plastic that they are screwed into is too flimsy and flexes/rattles a lot.

I just want something to fill the hole in the trim piece. Maybe ill try and find a speaker grille to fit over it.

Yea, i'd just put a grille over it, that speaker is useless, you shouldn't hear it from way back there if your stereo is set up right.
