CDT or MB Quart?
CDT or MB Quart?
I have been looking at replacement speakers for my 1994 TA with the 10 speaker system. I believe I have narrowed it down to two choices to replace my blown sailpanel speakers and door speakers.
In the 94's, the door speakers are 3-ohm SVC subs driven by a dedicated amp, and the door midbass are 4 ohm driven by the headunit.
I have replaced the factory headunit with a Pioneer 1 1/2 DIN units (have had one around in my other GM vehicles since 98).
Speaker choices are:
CDT Audio CL-6E
MB Quart RWE 160
No where local to listen, so I need some opinions. I listen to classic rock, and 80's metal (Ozzy, Crue, etc.).
These seem to be two quality manufacturers, and the speakers are within my budget.

I don't understand how you can narrow the field down to speakers you haven't even heard before. Buying on reputation alone is foolish IMO. Speaker selection is far too subjective to buy on a recommendation. There are some folks that will swear by Quart speakers. Others, myself included, think they are WAY too harsh sounding. I would evaluate the speakers that ARE available to you in your area, with your favorite CD's, and then make your decision on what to buy. It's the only way to be sure that you'll be happy with the speakers you end up buying.

I appreciate your opinion on the harshness of Quarts.
Jakerobb, A local shop has JL 6w0's that I am going to listen to, but I'm hearing they are too deep to fit w/o cutting the 1/4 bracing. Thanks for the input.

i have a very "harsH' speaker to listen to in my car.. the rockford power series 6.5" and it was cool at first but man my ears ring when i get done with a roadtrip.. i have it amped and routinely listen to it as loud as i can stand... it gets super crazy and loud but its very powerful at a certain note.. i still havent gone into the EQ to mellow it out..
i wish i would have bought a different speaker though.. this one hurts to listen to.
moral... dont buy a "harsh" sounding speaker unless you listen to your music at low to moderate volumes.

Re: CDT or MB Quart?
The JL 6w0 is a 6" subwoofer. Did you want subs? I thought you wanted regular full-range speakers. (I am not familiar with the CDT or MBQ models you listed, and didn't look them up, so I apologize if this is just an oversight on my part).
The JL's W0 line is their lowest subwoofer line. They're okay, but nothing special. I previously recommended their Evolution line of full-range speakers, and I'll stick with that. If you wanted to put subs in there, then get a set of component Evolutions and put the woofer in that spot.

Re: CDT or MB Quart?
Hey:
Thanks to all for the suggestion and information. I found some local shops that had some of the better names, and bought Diamond Audio (D362)components for the front, and Kicker (04ssmb6) midbass/subs for the rear.
I was surprised to hear how good Rockford Fosgate components sounded (especially for the price), but thought the Diamond stuff was a little cleaner sounding.
I'll post again when I get it all installed, beacuse we all know it sounds different in the car thean it does in the store.
