Radio/Window problem
Radio/Window problem
Radio is completely dead along with all window control. Used to be an intermittent problem but now its not. What used to happen was the radio and windows would die whenever I would shift of of park or reverse, when the brakes were applied, or when I was just cruising, but power would be restored a minute or two later. Have not got around to investigating it yet but I have seen one or two posts on here about the BCM and the RAP(no clue what this thing is). Just looking for insight until I get around to messing with it.
No idea if this has anything to do with it or not but when the headlamps are on and the brakes are applied, all the interior and exterior lights dim quickly then light back up.
Another thing as well that may or may not have anything to do with it, the car has a viper alarm system that was installed by the previous owner.

Re: Radio/Window problem
Before the BCM was added in 1996 models there was a separate “retained accessory power” (RAP) module. It maintains power to the radio and power windows for 10 minutes after you shut down the engine, or until you open the door.
In 1996 they incorporated RAP as part of the body control module. Intermittent or permanent loss of RAP power is usually a problem with the printed circuit board in the BCM. It can be repaired. I recall a repair procedure being online somewhere.
