Exclamation Radar detector mounting

Hey guys I need some input and some great ideas. I have an escort x50 RD and need a place to mount it. I also live in Virginia so it has to be hidden. I have a direct wiring kit for the fuse box so all I need is a spot to hide it from the cops. I would like to get the maximum range possible so it needs to be clear of obstructions if at all possible. Any one got any thoughts. Right now I have a 300$ piece of junk sitting in the back of my car no doing anything. I would like to find a way to use it or I am going to sell it. If anyone has any pictures to help give me some ideas let me know. Any help would be great.

Re: Radar detector mounting

I ran my wire from the left side fuse box inside the driver side door. Through the dash. UP the left A-Pillar - remove your T-Tops and unscrew 2 screws, then pull the A-Pillar out. Under the headliner and I put the Radar above your rearview mirror. For concealment I would suggest you look to see if your radar has a similar product to this. https://store.valentine1.com/store/products/20110.htm.

Keep in mind Virigina police have radar detector- detectors, which can spot the certain radiation that comes from them. I personally turn my radar off and put it in my glove box everytime I go through VA.

Yeah i a still 50/50 on whether i want to even deal with the risk or not. I did alot fo traveling a couple of months ago and it was a great thing to have. At this point i am thinking i might just ebay it and not deal with any hassel. Althought i have seen some good stealthy jobs where the RD is hiden under a visor cd holder thing. Seems like a smart way to go.

Re: Radar detector mounting

I think your Escort is able to block the VG2(radar detector-detector) that cops have... So that shouldn't be a problem.. I live in VA also and was thinking of a place to mount a radar detector... I thought of putting it in the headliner behind the rear view mirror like said above... But then I didn't know if I'd be able to hear it go off with the radio on and I couldn't see the display of course... I'd have to mount a cut-off switch too since I wouldn't want to be pulling beside a cop with the windows down and it goes off because he has radar or it goes off because of false alarms.

This page has some good info.

This model detector seems to be the only 1 that can't be detected by radar detector-detectors.

Re: Radar detector mounting

Yeah it seems any decent one can block the old RD detector but they know have a newer one that can ctach most of them. I have an Escort x50 red display. Its best overall is distance but most say the valentines are better because of the directional ability. I a gonna do some mock up ideas tomarrow. 94z28 escort and many other make direct connect kits that allow you to mute or kill it from an nline source. If i am gonna put mine in i am gonna put it in the ash tray so i can just shut the lid. Where are you at in VA dude?
