Which one. I have an old bell its about 5yrs old and thought finally about getting another one. I dont' usually speed. But sometimes they can be helpful. I don't really like the V1.

RX 265 is 221.00
8500 x50 is about 250.00

One piece of advice though...
You can't trust anything Radartest.com says.

They give the best ratings to the detector companies that treat them the nicest. ($$$$)

Car & Driver does the definitive test, and they've been doing for over 20 years.

Yea thats what I wanted to know....thats why I don't know which one to get...the RX65 is looking cheaper by 30 dollars which could play a factor if perfomrance is really close. Anybody got a link to the car and driver one?

I know more than 2 people use these things on this board lol.

Thanks I saw that link earlier, but didn't read it.

It seems escort and Bel is one company now. And there almost neck and neck. This one says 8500 is better by a small % on POP which I think is important. However it does not support Ku if it is picked up my us law and the Bel is 30-40 less.

Still waiting for my poll to get some hits...

Ive got a Bell Vector 995 and its awesome. Ive had a $150 Cobra that didnt perform nearly half of this 995. They usually go for $300 or so,I got mine here...

Re: Radar: Bel RX265 or 8500 X50

I have an older Bel, not sure of the model number. But I purchased it ~4 years ago for around $170-180 from Circuit City. My buddy also has a new Excort 8500, and over Spring Break I took both of them, and threw them both up just to see the difference.

The Escort picked up radar a solid second before mine did, cruising around 75-80. It also filtered out a lot more of the radar coming from automatic doors, and gave less "false" alarms.

The only draw back I had from the Escort is it is very quiet. I had the volume all the way up (at least on the scroll on the side, don't know if there's another way to change the volume through settings) and could barely hear it with the radio up, probably half way (stock Monsoon system w/Pioneer CD deck). So I know there's no way I'd hear it with the roof off in the summer time, where as my Bel gets extremely loud if you turn it all the way up.

Just my .02 on the Escort. It works extremely well compared to my Bel, I just wish you could turn the volume up louder.

Yea I got a old bell maybe 4yrs old..it was 250 new(given to me...) works ok, but don't do POP and i'm sure a new one would be a good bit better.

POP and the XU band are the two bands a lot of police will be using in the near future (some have already started using it quite often) so make sure your new radar detector will detect both those types.

Re: Radar: Bel RX265 or 8500 X50

i ahve the bell RX65 just got back from a 400 mile trip.

one thing i can say is there was a cop in front of me and the radar detector would only detect his K band when he was WELL within view.. kinda rediculous actually the detected didnt warn me from anythign my eyes couldnt already have seen.

its nice to have but i kinda wasted $300.if i were going 20 over the speed limit and the thing warned me i do not believe i woudl have enough time to slow down to avoid getting a ticket.

oh well it makes lots of cool beeps and lets people know i drive fast.. haha

Yah I have the Bel Pro RX65. Works like a dream. The volume on it can make be incredibly loud, if you want it that way. Ive got a stock monsoon sound system with pioneer deck and a 10" sub. And I can still hear it go off when its like on the 3rd lowest level out of like 8 or 9 levels im guessing. Even my friends who drove beside me could hear it go off while they were driving. Really lets you know if something comes up.

Re: Radar: Bel RX265 or 8500 X50

yeah now that i think about it... it does its job. i guess at first i was expecting it to work miracles.. not a miracle machine but it does its job very well.

the cop i mentioned didnt have laser pointed anywhere towards me and it was going off.
driving last night i was saved about a block and a half before i could even see the police officer.

i guess all i have to do is be saved two times and it pays for itself.

and yes it is very loud i have a stereo system you cannot talk over and the radar detector is audible over it. .the beeping is unmistakable.
