Help with amp please...

Im only powering ONE JL10W7 in my camaro...right now I have a Rockford Fosgate "Punch" amp. Its the POWER 250M series. It doesnt seem like to bad of an amp...but im not sure im getting the kind of bass I want. I listen to a lot of rock and a little rap music...so im just looking for that good clear bump for bass. Im having a hard time with this amp getting what I want..

I turned the gain all the way up on my punch amp and frquency around 75hz and it sounded great...(I have a ****ty cd player so I have to put the bass on like -3 or -4 so the rest of my speakers sound good still. However..the amp kept overheating with this method. Anyone got any suggestions?

you might wanna get a decent deck, you dont need a top of the line one though. if you set that gain to hi it might become disorted and might blow your speakers, so dont do that. so if i were you ide just get a decent deck, check on ebay.

its over heating because you have the gain turned all the way up. thats just like turning the oven up to 450 degrees and asking why is it getting so hot. turn the gain down some and turn it up on your cd player. if your speakers are crap, then get 4 new ones if you want to crank your sub.

If you want a hell of a bass, sell your amp at ebay, and get class-D one with more potential (MTX, JL, HIFONICS). Where you mounted it? It may be not enough airflow for cooling....

Re: Help with amp please...

If your amp is overheating you more than likely have it hooked up to a load that is too low for it to handle. Running a 2ohm load when the minimum load the amp can handle is 4ohms for instance. This will cause the amp to run hot and go into protection mode.

On top of that you should NEVER have your gain turned all the way up. That is NOT how it works.

Re: Help with amp please...

you needa bigger amp i think.

here is how ill explain it.. haha hopefully this will make sense.
you need to go 70mph BUT you only have three gears sure you can get there but your car is working WAY too hard you need to get a bigger amp which is just like shifting into overdrive.
working your amp that hard everyday will wear it down just like revving your car up to 6000rpms everyday woudl wear you engine down.

does that make any sense?

Re: Help with amp please...

makes sense...i turned the gain down just a slight turn or so...still sounds ok...and it doesnt overheat anymore...I purchased a new cd player though with subwoofer controlls and all this other good stuff...so I think that will help me. The cd player I had was kind of a cheapo only good for powering 4 normal speakers. Thanks guys
