question about adding some lights..

Used cig lighter for power..

Added the following:
On off switch - no ground, just + and -
Light up shift **** - no ground. just + and -

When I put the fuse in, if the unit is in the "off" position, it will blow the fuse.

Do I need to put an inline fuse?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!

so you used the 2 wires that went to the cig. lighter and used them for some little lights and you added a toggle switch to turn them on and off?

you should be set to go because unless someone messed with it there should be a fuse and relay and everything already in place ( i think)

there is.. a 25a fuse.
but no matter what, if we turn the switch to the off position to turn the lights off, the fuse blows.. We are on fuse #5 now.

Tests show the off position blows!
hahha

So, could this be a ground issue? very odd.. The shift **** is lit up when a fuse is in there and all is good until you try and turn it off.. which would be ideal since you dont want your interior lit up all night.

I'm not exactly sure how you have this wired... But I would splice into the hot wire going to the cigarette outlet. Put a fuse on your tap and run the hot to your switch. Then go from the switch to the hot on your light. Connect the other side of the light to a good ground. If your still blowing fuses try a different switch, it may be shorting out.

Power to switch to ground?? Sound like the fuse did its job then.
