Putting hew head unit in, cant get speakers to work

I have a 94 Z, I don't think its a bose (it says nothing about bose on the head unit). I have a new Alpine in dash 3 disk changer. I have power to the head unit and cant get the speakers to make a sound. The original system has 2 speakers in the doors, and one way in the back on the drivers side. I figgured I'd put an additioal pair in the side panels by the back seat. I know I have to run wires to them but why cant I get the ones in the doors to work??? I bought one of those adapter plugs but still no luck. HELP!!!!!
