Problem installing e-cutout

Okay, see if anyone can diagnose this one....

Got QTP cutout, got it on the cutout no prob. Hooked the harness from cutout through the grommet in the floor board, ran wire through center console. Where the long wire connects to the harness for the switch, I plugged that in. Only thing left to do was hot/ground wires. Tapped into pinkish wire from shifter light in console, and tapped ground (black) of cutout to black of cigarette lighter. This way, lights have to be on for switch to work, and it doesn't stay on all the time.

Problem: It doesn't work!! THe light on the shifter plate still lights up, the cig outlet still powers cell phone charger. No blown fuses. Took everything apart, plugged it back in. Still nothing. How do I diagnose? Give me something to do, I'll go do it and report back. Please help!!! I really wanted to do this today!!

Pinkish wire is your problem.

Try hooking it to the orange wire going to the cig. lighter instead.

Just try that for now to see if it works. If it does you can find another wire that will not have power when the car is off (for example on the fuse box there is a place you can stick a spade in and draw power that says "IGNITION" and will only be on when the key is turned forward in the ignition).

Re: Problem installing e-cutout

So have both wires running to the cig lighter, temporarily? Right?

Also--not too good with electrical stuff, so "stick a spade in" sounds almost racist. You mean a male end quick disconnect? And how do I just stick it in?

Thanks for the quick response, I'm gonna go try the cig thing and let you know!

Yeah, a male end ! If you pop the fuse panel off and look at the sticker on it you will see an L shaped spot (top right I believe) that says ignition.

Find the correspondin spot on the actual panel. Look closely and you will see one side of the L has metal (copper color I believe) in it. That is where the male end goes, should slide right in and hold in place well.

You working on it now?

Yep, just switched over to run red wire from switch to orange from cig lighter. Black still goes to black. Still doesn't work!! Could I have a dead switch? That's the only thing I can think of! Cig lighter still works, so I know that it has good leads.....what next??

Re: Problem installing e-cutout

Hmmm.... Do you have a pic of wires going to the switch, wiring harness, etc...???

Does the LED on the switch come on when you are flipping it? Did you try just tapping directly into the two wires that actually go to the cutout and making sure it works?

It's got two wires coming off the motor to the switch. Send power through one and ground the other and motor goes one way. Switch the wires and motor goes the other way.
