Problem having aftermarket stereo installed

Hi folks, well I had to go shopping for an aftermarket stereo for my '97 Z28. Now it was not a Bose system and when I purchased my new Kenwood the installation guy said because of the factory amp only 4 speakers will work. (???) as opposed the the 6. I asked how would the system work on all 6 ? He said that I would need to get a new amp. Can someone please tell me if this is true ? has anyone else had this problem ? Should I just get a CD changer (which he said would allow all 6 speakers to work) and most importantly, is there THAT much of a difference listening to CD's through a changer as opposed to the factory HU ? Thanks in advance.

WHAT!!!? If it's not a Bose, it only has 4 speakers. Have you found more than 4? Was there another radio available besides the stock and the Bose?

No it is not a Bose. When I had it repaired about a year ago the guy that fixed it sd the 'guts' were Sony. I have the door speakers, the 2 in the back seat(side panels) and the 2 in the hatch area. The aftermarket was purchased from Best Buy .. I asked the guy if there was another stereo that would accomodate all 6 speakers but said no because aftermarket stereos are only 4 channel.

yea... uhm... yea...

Personally... I'd just start from scratch.. who really knows what is in your car right now...

I'd say get a nice HU, and a set of 4 speakers...

If you want to upgrade somewhat, get a 4ch amp and a set of component speakers for the front, rears aren't really needed and can/do screw up your soundstage, but you can add them if you wish; and the 4ch will allow you to run them later if you don't have the $$ for all of it now.
