Problem with amp or subs...or both?? HELP

I have 2 CEX-10 subs being powered by a CD-810 D amp. Right now the wires are paralled as shown in the diagram on this website.

http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/e.../whatsdual.htm

There is absolutely no bass coming out at all. The amp is receiving power. I have 8 gauge power wire and ground wire. (I have 4 gauge waiting to go in, but the guy that had the car before me made a mess of wires that I have to clean out)

THe amp seems to be fine running off of it but the subs will not do a thing, the speaker wire itself is 12 gauge. I had a buddy who seems to know a lot about this sort of thing help out with picking the wires and setting everything up. We have tried everything and cannot come to a conclusion with what it is.

However we did notice that witht he bass controller (little black box that came with amp) that if we turned it all the way up to "max" the subs almost wanted to dos oemthing but were making almost a humming sound.

Any ideas or suggestions?? I really need help with this!!

Did you check your RCA wires?

What HU are you running? Stock, aftermarket?

Yea check the rca's behind the head unit and also try moving the sub in and out lightly by pusing on them. If they move in and out with a grinding sound then the voice coils are bad. If it is an aftermarket head unit there might be a setting that enables the RCA jacks or some kind of sub settings. Im not sure but I also think you can hook up an ohm tester to the speaker contacts on the amp to see if power is coming out of them.
