Picked up a Viper 5701. What about this VATS I hear of?
Hey guys, awhile ago I put a remote start into my Ford Contour. I believe the car had something called PATS that required a signal from the key in order to start. I remember having to buy an additional "PKALL Bypass Module" that simulated the signal that the Ford key gave off and allowed the car to start.
However, this is only my 2nd Chevy and I'm not familiar with the VATS security system. Clearly there is some type of chip or resister in the key. Is there an easy way to get the remote to start to work without needing to keep the key in the car?
I did a little research online and noticed the PLJX module. Is this what I'm looking for?
Thanks guys. By the way, I have a '94 Z28.

you can bypass the VATS. the modules do this but only when it is being started. If you bypass it the computer allways sees the chip resistance so any key cut correctly would work. you just match a resistor of the same ohms to the two little wires that go to the key cylinder. The same hookup as the module. Some modules require a spare key (if thats what your talking about) but I dont know if thats still the case. you just need the resistance so you could always break the key if you didnt want a copy in the car. Either way.
