Parallel battery help
Parallel battery help
I'm thinking about putting a second battery into the trunk of my 93 z. I've been told to do this I should justdo the following:
--Find a place to mount it with some space andair.
--Drill a hole in the body and sand the paint off for the ground.
--Hook the old power from my amp(4 gauge) to the new battery. So the two bateries are connected.
--Use the new battery.
Is there anything either wrong with these, or anything more? I dont want to do anything with this until I know for sure I will be doing the right thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

What are the power demands of your current system? Do you really need a second battery to handle it? -this is for when the car isn't running so you can wear one batt down...right???

The reason I think I will be needing a second battery is because I will be running 2 amp. One 1000 watt peak and 500 RMS, and one 2400 watt peak with 800 RMS. That will go along with the neon installed, My fog lights, and the 2 monitors I will be putting in. Would my stock alternator handle that?
I would do the big3, get a nice battery and see what happens id say you will be ok. The screens really dont draw alot of power, and your amps unlesss running fulltilt dont draw rediculous current. My buddy has 1200rms sub amp and 70x4 4 channel in his TA with stock alternator and a generic battery and no dimming at all and this is before the big 3 upgrade

A second battery is only for extended listening when the engine is off. If the engine is running then ALL of the car's electrical needs are met by the car's charging system. Once the engine is running your battery (or batteries) become part of the load on the charging system just like the stereo system, fog lights, etc.
I would probably use a battery isolator instead of wiring the batteries in parallel also - if you really want them in parallel as one load though for whatever reason, buy 2 new batteries that are identical to one another in every way possible. --Either way though, if you want plan on killing the battery a lot with the car off, go with Optima's YELLOW top battery/any good deep cycle battery and skip the second battery.
