been trying to find a 47 ohm 1w resistor and can't seem to find one. The closest thing they have is a 47ohm 1/2 watt. Is there anywayt to combine resistors to have the same effect as a 47ohm 1w? Sorry, not an electrical expert so....

 

You could always use 4, 2 pairs in series then wire the 2 pairs in parallel for total of 47 ohm 2 watts.

You should be able to find a single wire wound 47ohm that is capable of over 1/2w.

 

You're not referring to using 4, 47ohm resistors wired like that, achieving a total resistance of 47 ohms, are you?

 

yep, that's if you cannot find a 1w and you have 1/2w.

 

the reason I'm asking is b/c I'm doing the manual fan switch mod and I tried grounding the fan wire w/o a resistor and it threw a code.

 

I'm fairly sure I used a 1/2w resistor for my fan switch....

 

that didn't get too hot? Also, when I was messing with it today, I noticed that the fan switch is on a constant so why does the diagrams I saw require for me to hook up to a 12 volt source? I don't think I need if all I need is to ground the fan wires. From what I understand, looks like I need the resistor between the wire splice and the switch.

 

Haven't had a problem with it yet. I've had it in for about 6 months now, used it a lot tonight too. The 12v source is for the LEDs.

 

ok, cool beans. I was going to do the LED but I decide not to do it. Another question, I have a lot of extra speaker wire, between 12/14 awg. Will this do? I have wire taps right now on the fan wires and I plan on putting some speaker wires on there and then the resistor. Do you have any suggestions or pics of your install. I would appriciate any help.

 

oh yeah, and one more question. The diagram is showing the use of two 47 ohm 1w resistor on one of the wires. Did you just use one resistor per wire or two on one of them?

 

12-14 gauge should be fine. I have some pics here: http://members.shaw.ca/nrfarley/pics...tch%20install/ I kind of stopped taking pictures when it came time to wire things up so I can't remember exactly how I ended up doing it. I remember I used some info from a thread in LT1 tech to stop it from throwing a code. I'll have a look at it tomorrow and let you know.

 

thanks. Since I couldn't finish the install the other day, I just left the wire tap on the low fan wire and not my car is throwing a code looks like when the fan kicks in. I just took it off and hopefully it won't throw another one.

 

I got a chance to take a look today (haven't driven the car for a couple days) and it looks like i do have 2 in parallel on one wire and one on the other. The resistors are all wrapped in heatshrunk tubing so I can't identify any values but I'm pretty sure I used 47 ohm 1/2w.....

 

thanks for the help. I used the 1/2w resistors and works fine. No SES light. I did use 2 resistors on the low fan, that's what it had on the wiring diagram but works real well. Hopefully it'll be fine, but I just use speaker wires and I didn't do that LED's for the switch. I was thinking of hooking the LED inline with the switch but I'm not sure if that will work.

just use the cig lighter + to supply power to the LEDs and have them ground with the blue and green wires.

For me LEDs are a must to stop me from accidentally leaving the fans on.
