Cool New Sub

OK, I have an Kicker KX1200.1 amp and WAS running an 04 model 12" solobaric. Well I went to the beach so I turned my amp up pretty loud to ride the strip and forgot to turn it down, resulting in roasted voicecoils. Now I'm purchasing a new sub and I want something that can run about 1000w RMS. I don't care about price bc I only use the best anyways. So suggestions/reviews would be great. Thanks.

2 x JL 12W7; your amp will blow first

Re: New Sub

I wanna run only one sub....I don't know why but I've thought one sub just looked cleaner and less gaudy. One can have there own opinion though.

Re: New Sub

Then, go with one 12W7, it's probably the best sub of that size on market.

It's rated on 750RMS, but can handle a lot more. Look at the graph at the bottom, over 1500W RMS voids it's warranty.

Re: New Sub

The Goliath only has 20mm Xmax. Pretty weak nowadays.

A single W7, barring the 13.5", will run at 3 ohms. You won't be making the most of your amps capabilities. Great subs though. Two 10W7's, or even two 12W7's would be pretty deadly. I did one guy's truck with two 12W7's, and it had an insane amount of roof flex. Easily mid 150's at the dash.

For a single sub, an 06 RE XXX would be a nice choice. 54mm one way linear excursion. I haven't heard one in person, but they do seem to be legit. Just for comparison, an L7 has about 14mm one way excursion. And a sub is just like a motor, you can roughly guess how loud a sub will be by figuring out it's displacement by multiplying SD (Cone surface area, or bore) and XMAX (linear excursion, or stroke).

Other fine choices would include the TC Sounds LMS-5400, IDMAX 12, MTX 9500, Diamond D9, Boston Acoustics G555 and a few others. But I'd say if you're looking for a single sub to do a lot of damage, an 06 XXX would be a great way to go.
