new door speakers are cracking...

I put some new door speakers in. They're kenwood 6.5" speakers, they handle 40 watts rms and 240 max. They arent amped or anything so they're just running on the HU so I know they can handle the power but when I turn them up to like 18 vol. level they make a crackling sound. I have them hooked up to the original wiring at the moment which I think might be the problem even though the factory amp isn't powering on because of my after market HU but would running new wire to them straight from the HU help? any suggestions? thanks

no i turned the bass down. i took the the wires that ran from the amp to the tweeters on the old speaker off and hooked up just the other wires. the right one worked fine when i turned it up. so i hooked the left one up and they were working fine as loud as i could stand them and i was happy so i turned the car off and went to put everything back. then my brother came out and wanted to hear the speakers so i turned it back on and they werent working so i went to fix it and when my finger touched the speaker they came on. could it be a grounding issue? i might just forget it and run new wire to them. any suggestions?

Im a little confused, The amp will still work if you just swap out the radio (unless you bypassed it). The tweeters are not amplified on the monsoon amp system. If you are running the door speakers from the tweeter wires, that is fine but you will be underpowering them and in addition, if the rest of the car audio is stock, they are going to sound quieter in relation to the other amplified speakers. As far as they started working again when you touched them: check to make sure you didnt knick a wire somewhere or that the terminal connections arent touching.

well if the amp still works with a different HU can anyone tell me what the second smaller wire harness is that goes into the original radio?

The only other harness i could think of would be for a disc changer. It sounds like you have a bad connection. Double check all of your speaker wires, and make sure that they are all getting a good connection, and they are secured so that they cant move around. Also, even if you've done it before, blasting your factory radio all the way up is just going to make them sound like crap.
