New to car audio (amp question)
New to car audio (amp question)
Hey guys, I just recently bought 2 Pioneer IMPP 12's in a sealed box and was having questions about what kind of amp i need to power these? They are single voice coil, and can handle 450w peak (i'm not sure on the RMS numbers) Well anyways, i bought an 800w 2 channel Kenwood amp, and i was told after that i would need a monoblock amp, so i was going to return there (Circuit City) tomorrow and exchange for a 1000w monoblock Kenwood amp for only a few bucks more. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have no clue if i should get a new amp, or if my 2 channel amp will make me happy. The tech at a local audio shop said that i need a mono amp because of the single voice coil speakers. Is this true?
Thanks for putting up with the newb questions,

With the amp and subs you have now you could run a stereo subwoofer system. Each sub would require it's own chamber.
If you connect the subs in parallel you'll have a 2ohm load. I doubt that your 2 channel Kenwood can handle a 2ohm load when it's bridged. In that case a class-D (or whatever the flavor of the month class) mono subwoofer amp would be ideal.

Do the Kenwood KAC801D amp. Its the mono Kenwood amp. If you are going to Circuit City, see what sales they have on the MTX's. I know that we are running some AWESOME deals in our Circuit City. Theres one MTX mono amp that is $100 off. I think its the 421D.

..The amp has 2 pos. terminals, as well as 2 neg. terminals. So what you are telling me is to run both positive wires together to the same positive terminal, while doing the same with the negatives to the corresponding negative terminal?
I don't know about the Kenwood but my mono MTX 6500D amp has 2 sets of outputs too. They are connected in parallel inside the amp. This is just for convenience so you don't have to piggyback the sub's connections on only one set of outputs. It must be the same for the Kenwood if it's a mono amp.
