Need some help with sub/amp selection for subthump stealth enclosure

I am looking at picking up an Alpine Type R sub for the stealth box I just ordered from Subthump.com

I have an older Rockford fosgate Amp, it's a Punch 75.2 (1999??) I found these specs:

Punch 75.2

* 2-channel "Punch" Amplifier.
* Output Power (4 ohms) 37.5W x 2.
* Output Power (2 ohms) 75W x 2.
* Output Power Bridged(4 ohms) 150W x 1.
* Distortion Max (4 ohms) 0.05%.
* Frequency Response (+/- 0.5dB) 20Hz - 20kHz.
* Signal to Noise (A-weighted) >100dB.
* Input Sensitivity (+0dB gain overlap) 150mV - 3.0V.
* Bridgeable.
* Punch EQ (45 Hz / 20kHz).
* Crossover 80Hz.
* Xcard Crossover.

If I bridge it, will it be enough amplifier, or do I need to look for something else? If so what would you recommend? I am also using the Pioneer GM replacement headunit DEH-P77DH (45x4).

It is kind of small, but will be ok for a while When you feel like upgrading, get a nice class-D amp, it will be very efficient, will never overheat. Class D MTX's can be found very cheap on ebay. JL 250/1 or 500/1 are the best IMHO.

the mtx are good quality for the price. i've got a more powerful rockford fosgate amp then you (P5002) and it hasn't over heated yet. but the alpine type r subs dont sound good at all unless you just like loudness and not a good, solid hitting subwoofer. my friend has two in his expedition and i think they sound like crap. you can get better quality for the money.

The only reason I am going with the Alpine is I was recomended it from Subthump as the best sub for that enclosure b/c of the same range it operates in

well the only problem you still have if you want the type-r sub is that your amp isn't putting out nearly as much power as it should be for that particular sub. thats the problem my friend has. he's only pushing like 250 watts rms to it when it should be around 500 rms watts. i still think if you put that much power in them, it'll sound like crap. if your going to pay around $200 a sub, get a kicker, rockford, or infinity. thats just IMO of what i've heard that give you the best bang for your buck.

That's what I was wondering if it would underpower that sub. I figured I'd have to replace it, but wanted to be sure first.

honestly the alpine type r is a good sub if you have it in the right box. the guy with the friend that had crappy sounding ones.. pretty sure it was because it wasnt tuned up correctly and was in a poorly chosen box.

its a good sub especially for the price. now of course there are better ones out there or just as good for less money. i think a while back i paid $120ish for an elemental designs which i was VERY happy with. id reccomend one of those and then use the amp you have with it and if you want more bass then woudl be the time to get a bigger amp.

Do yourself a favor.

Check out Elemental Designs.
They have a 10" sub (11kv2)

That will work great in the stealth box. It's an awesome sub, great customer service, and a badass price.

This is my 2nd sub from them, only because I let my old one go in my old car when I sold it.

That stuff looks pretty decent, and the price is right and includes shipping!

Any idea which amp would compliment one of those 11kv.2 subs?

Thanks for the info!

Re: Need some help with sub/amp selection for subthump stealth enclosure

any amp that does 300-500wRMS@2ohms woudl be great.
id suggest buying the dual 4 ohm model becuase you only plan to have a single sub right? that will allow you to wire it to get the most out of your amp.

what kind of budget do you have for an amp?
one i would reccomend simply because of the size is the alpine MRP-M450
we sell it at my store for about $200 but you can probably find it online for a little better price.

not the biggest amp but its small in size and packs a punch.. woudl do very well for the price and you wouldnt have to shake your head in shame when yo tell people what amp you have. IMHO

The ED NiNe.2 will sound GOOOODDD with that sub, and they give decent pakage deals too.
http://www.edesignaudio.com/packages.php

They have a good forum here
http://www.icixsound.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=24

and you can allways call or email the guys at the shop, they are cool as hell.

I hate to be a brand nuthugger, but this is a great company, I'm suprised not many people know about them yet.
