Need help with speaker setup?

I've got two 12" kicker solo-baric L7's,duel voice coils. I'm just wondering what is the diff between 2 ohms and 4 ohms speakers/amp setup what is the best way to hook them up 2 or 4 ohms? and what is a good all around amp for them?

The best way to hook them up depends on what amp you are using. If you do not have an amp yet, you're in luck. You can pick an amp that will work best with the subwoofers you have. Nobody can really recommend an amp yet, until you tell us which model L7's you have. Dual 2 ohm? Dual 4 ohm? The only type of amp that can really be recommend now is one that outputs the same power at 1 or 2 ohms. Such as the JBL BP1200.1 . Great amp. Cheap and flexable. Once you tell us which model you have, we can recommend more amps and tell you how you need to wire them together to get the most out of your setup. Please do not just go out and buy an amp until YOU ARE SURE you know what you're doing. Having a mis-matched setup would suck.....all because you couldn't wait. lol

Re: Need help with speaker setup?

Ok, so you will need to use a series-parallel wiring scheme. On each woofer, run a single "jumper wire" from the + on one coil to the - on the other. That should still leave you with a set of +'s and -'s. Now, each sub is in series. They would present a 4 ohm load to any amp. Now step 2, connect the unused +'s from both woofers to the + output on the amp. Do the same for the -'s. you now have wired the woofers together in parallel. They both are now presenting your amp with a final load of 2 ohms. So there's your answer. You need to find an amp that outputs it's max power at 2 ohms. The 2-channel amp will not work for you. You need to pick out a nice mono amp. The JBL BP1200.1 would be great. Great bang for the buck. If you can afford more, just say. I've got several others in mind....

Sony doesn't make the best car audio gear, but yes, that will work fine. Wire your subs like I said above, and you'll get the full 900 watts out of that amp. Yes, a mono amp would mean 1-channel. 2-channel amps running in bridged mode are almost always stable to 4-ohms and above.

JL is decent, but expensive. No matter what anyone says, you ARE paying a little extra for the JL hype. The JBL BP1200.1 is tried and true. Greatt bang for the buck. Should run you about $270+shipping new. It will do around 1280WRMSx1@1 or 2 ohms. Meaning a tad over 600WRMS per L7. Not sure what box your using, but that should be plenty to get those eye ***** shaking! If you're wanting more power and willing to spend more money, lemme know and I'll recommend something else.

I'm dying to here these after seeing them mentioned on boards so much. My friend's got a 300W peak amp driving his sub and it hurts my ears to sit in his car. A sub being driven a full 600WRMS has got to cause some MAJOR hearing damage.
