is my amp 2 powerful?

i am powering my CDT compnent speakers off of a kenwood amp that is 150 watt@ 2 channels @ 4ohms. the bass is just really crappy sounding not very clean at i am think that might just be too much power, if thats possible? and when i turn down the bass its just not enough there is just no middle ground, is there a way to turn down the power of the amp? or should i look into getting a less powerful amp? if so reccommendation?

Are you using a subwoofer? If you are the main speakers should be hi-passed around 80Hz or so. (Hi-passed means the bass is being blocked from going to the speakers) If your speakers are being run full-range then the distortion you are hearing is to be expected. Your typical 6.5" woofer can't handle high powered sub bass.

The Bass Switch you mentioned sounds like an EQ control that boosts the bass around 40Hz. This control is useful as a bass boost for when the amp is used to power a subwoofer.

no subs, my whole set up consists of a sony xplod head unit rated at 52wx4ch (i know no one likes sony but i have had them for years and love them), then a pair of cdt cl61a component speakers and some cheap pioneer speakers in the rear. the components are beign powered by the kenwood kac-7201 thats rated at 150w@2ch@4ohms and the pioneers are being powered off of the head unit. i like rear fill sorry i hate not having it. there is a switch on the amp to choose a filter either hpf off or lpf then a bass boost switch to select either off or 12 db. than a third switch for stereo or mono i have it set to stereo. then there is a lpf frequency **** and an input sensitivity ****. i have no idea what any of these switches and ***** should be set to. so is this just 2 much for the speakers to handle should i get a smaller amp and use this one for a sub woofer? or what?

The input sensitivity **** is the amp's gain control. It is important that it be set correctly. Where do you have it set now? Depending on the output voltage of you HU it should only be turned up about 1/3 of the way. The other control is the cutoff frequency of the amp's crossover. Since you aren't using a sub you have no need for this control. Your LPF (Low Pass Filter), HPF (Hi Pass Filter) should be turned OFF as you have it now so that the amp is sending a full range signal to the speakers.

If you have the sensitivity control set higher than 1/3 you need to back it off a little. This will reduce the amount of power coming from the amp. If the sensitivity is already at minimum you either need to get better speakers or a less powerful amp.
