Muddled/Hallow sound coming out.

I am having a bizarre issue with my sail panel woofers. I have a completely stock system: HU, amp and speakers for that matter. Right now I’m noticing that around 50% of the songs that I play the bass has this hallow sound. It doesn’t have that cackle or whistle that I associate with a blown speaker, but when the bass hits it hits in a strange way. The bass is there but it sounds muddled. It has been going on for about a month now and I’m completely boggled. I replaced those speakers around 6 months ago, with the factory delco ones from a dealership, so the idea of them being blown seems a little unlikely/very frustrating. I did notice one thing that the little mesh cover over the speakers seem to be stretched out in comparison to brand new. As I said everything is still firing but it just sounds wonky around half the time. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

If you have Monsoon system, problem with the change in sail panel woofers operation can be in faulty Monsoon amp or, very unlikely, headunit.

I lean to the HU now because I recently bought a new CD, played it, and then made a copy of it. That CD the stereo sounds perfect, I hear very little distortion and it isn't muddled sounding. But with a CD made from music I bought from itunes, that is when I get the lack of sound.

What bitrate of MP3's you burnt the disk from? Burning software can make a difference too.

I agree with valter, it sounds like you need to use a higher birate when you burn your music.
