Mosoon HU and amp Q's

Ok, I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I need some help.

I recently bought to two 10" subs, a Q-Logic dual ported box, and amp to power it. I have the Mosoon CD system (no cd changer). There are no RCA jacks in the back of the headunit, so how do i hook up the amp? I've been told that i have to upgrade to a new HU with RCA's. But I've SEEN 98 and up Camaros with a similar setup, maintaing the stock HU!

Also, one of my friends has a HU i can use that has RCA's, but, the connectors on the back of the stock HU are a little confusing. The black cable is the antenna, the big white connector is for the HU, but there is a small red connector too. What is it? And how do i power my stock speakers (all six locations) with the new HU's internal amp?

Thanks for your help

Check on www.crutchfield.com , I know they make a plug in for the monsoon system that has preamps in it. But if not you can by a converter that cuts into on of the signals fromt he factory amp, that converts to preamps.

exactly. the latter is cheaper also. but keep in mind you are not gonna get the same performance as if you went and bought an aftermarket HU with preamp outputs, especially seperate subwoofer output. if your going to upgrade to some tens, and an amp, just go ahead and buy a decent HU. Nothing fancy with displays or screens or anything, just something reputable to system building. Thats what i would do.

I've heard the converters do not work well, and you get engine noise through the speakers too.

In order to KEEP the Monsoon HU and still add an aftermarket amp to power the subs, you need a PAC OEM-1. The OEM-1 will add two sets of RCA outs as well as an amp turn-on lead to the Monsoon HU. I personally use the OEM-1 and I have no additional noise in my system by using this "adapter." Noise is induced when the HU levels & amp levels are mismatched. The OEM-1 has adjustable levels on each channel, so a match with your Monsoon HU to an aftermarket amp is NOT a problem and you won't have any additional noise induced into the system if you adjust the levels correctly. I went with the OEM-1 to preserve the "stock" look of my sytem, but it is FAR from stock. Check out the link in my sig for pics of the OEM-1 as well as installation instructions.

However, if you do decide to replace the Monsoon HU, and want to keep the Monsoon amp and speakers, that's not a problem at all either. The Monsoon HU uses a standard 4 channel internal amp to send a speaker level signal to the Monsoon amp. If you replace the Monsoon HU with an aftermaket HU, just use a regular wiring harness available at Wal-Mart or any car audio shop and then you can power all Monsoon speakers and just use the aftermarket HU's RCA outs to power the amp to power your subs.

Either way will work just fine.

Check at the FAQ's at the top of the "Electronics Forum" over at www.ls1.com for more information on the Monsoon system.
