monsoon vs pre monsoon

How much more power does the monsoon put out vs the pre-monsoon stock head units? I ask because I have a problem. Within a week of swapping a pre-monsoon tape deck for a Monsoon CD HU, my subwoofer quit working. I am assuming that the monsoon has blown one or more of the capacitors I found behind the HU during the swap. Is this possible? Is there anyway (easy) to tell? Im not very electrical nor do I have the correct electrical tools. I'd just like a place to tell the guy to start when I take it in to have it looked at.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Rusty

Both HU's put out the same amount of power. The only differenve between them is the add-on POS Monsoon amp. In a POS Monsoon system the HU only powers the tweets. The POS Monsoon amp powers all the woofers.

Your blown sub has nothing to do with any capacitors you might have found behind the HU. Why you would have caps there is a mystery to me. The POS factory subs blow all the time because the POS Monsoon amp is nothing more than an over rated, over hyped, distortion producing POS.

Hmmm I take it you don't like the Monsoon eh?

My sub that is blown is my JL Audio subwoofer I had installed. Sorry I wasn't clearer about that. It just quit working one week after I did the HU swap. I checked the box and the wiring was intact so not sure what else could be wrong. The stereo still plays and all 10 speakers still work. Just big #11 has gone to woofer heaven.

So if I understand you correctly,if I get the monsoon add-on amp, my other 10 speakers will have more punch to them?

Thanks,
Rusty

Have you checked to make sure that the sub is getting a signal from the amp? Have you checked to make sure that the sub amp is getting a signal?

Don't even think about getting a POS Monsoon amp. With all the distortion it produces you'll be blowing speakers all the time.

Got any cheap and dirty ways to tell what is or is not getting signal? Stick my tongue on it? Just kidding. I don't have any of the tools to do that stuff so I guess I'll cart it off to a stereo shop.

Thanks for the advice!
